Overview

Keep writing without leaving the editor. Generate the next passage, add a summary, or develop an example where you are. When the document needs an image, Inki can create one from the text around your cursor and insert it at that position.

How to Use

On an empty line, press Tab or click “Generate text.” To open Inline Generation directly while writing, press Cmd+J. On a touch device, tap the prompt shown on an empty line.
  1. When generating text, change the model if needed
  2. Enter what you want to generate
  3. Press Enter to start
Press Esc to stop.

Slash Command Menu

Type /, ／, ;, or ； in the editor to open the command menu. You can convert the current block to a heading or list, edit the current line with AI, or generate text. Keep typing to filter the menu.
  • On an empty line, type an instruction after the trigger and press Enter to generate it
  • On a line with text, pressing Enter edits the current line by default. Choose the separate generation item when you want to add new text
  • Press Esc, or type a half-width or full-width space immediately after the trigger, to close the menu and return to regular typing

Cmd+J Shortcut

Press Cmd+J to open Inline Generation without going through the command menu.

Choose a Model

Inline Generation remembers your selected model for the next time you use it. See Models and Reasoning for details about each option.

Create an Image for the Text Around It

At the spot where you need a blog cover or section image, enter an instruction such as “Create a wide cover image for this article.” Inki uses the text before and after your cursor, so you don’t have to paste the article summary into a separate image tool.

Work with the Result

  • For text, select Apply to add the result to your note or Cancel to discard it
  • For an image, click the generated image to enlarge it. Select Apply to insert it where you’re writing or Cancel to leave your note unchanged
If you cancel a text result by mistake, press Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows) immediately to restore it. You can also enter a follow-up instruction and generate another version of the text or image.

Helpful Features

Related instructions appear as you type, and you can select one with Tab. Press the up arrow to recall earlier instructions.
