In a desktop browser or the Mac app, click “Search” in the sidebar or press Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows or Linux). Search covers note titles, note content, and folder names. You can also run actions from the same box, such as creating a note or opening Settings. In the iOS app or a mobile browser, open the sidebar with the button at the top left, then tap the search button at the top.

Manage Notes

Rename, duplicate, move, or delete a note from these menus:
  • Desktop browser and Mac app: “More” at the top of the note, or the ”…” button on the note’s row in the sidebar
  • iOS app: The note’s menu, or long-press the note’s row in the sidebar
  • Mobile browser: The note’s menu, or the ”…” button on the note’s row in the sidebar
The menu includes “Rename”, “Duplicate note” (“Duplicate” on phones), “Move to Folder…”, and “Move to Trash”. The iOS app shows “Delete” instead of “Move to Trash”. After you confirm, the note moves to Trash. It isn’t permanently deleted. In a desktop browser or the Mac app, choose “Move to Folder…” > “Remove from folder” to take a note out of its folder. While the notification after moving a note to Trash shows “Undo,” you can reverse it.

Manage Folders

In a desktop browser or the Mac app, click ”…” on the folder’s row in the sidebar, then choose “Rename” or “Move to Trash”. You can also move a folder to Trash from ”…” at the top of the folder page. In the iOS app, long-press the folder’s row in the sidebar. In a mobile browser, tap ”…” on the row. Then choose “Rename” or “Delete” (“Move to Trash” in a mobile browser). The folder page’s menu has the same options. Moving a folder to Trash also moves the notes inside it.

Trash

Deleted notes and folders move to Trash and are permanently deleted 30 days after deletion. Until then, you can restore them from Trash.

Open Trash

  • Desktop browser and Mac app: Click your profile at the bottom of the sidebar, then choose “Trash”. You can also choose “View Trash” in the notification shown right after you move a note or folder to Trash
  • iOS app and mobile browser: Tap the settings button at the bottom left of the sidebar, then choose “Trash”

Restore or Permanently Delete

In a desktop browser or the Mac app, click “Restore” or “Permanently delete” on the item’s row. In the iOS app, long-press an item or swipe it left. In a mobile browser, tap the item. Then choose “Restore” or “Permanently delete”. To delete everything in Trash, choose “Empty Trash” at the top of the screen. Permanently deleted items can’t be restored. You can’t restore a folder from Trash while another folder has the same name. Rename the existing folder first, then restore.

Export

  1. Open the note and click “More” > “Export” at the top
  2. Choose “HTML”, “Markdown”, or “PDF”
In a desktop browser or the Mac app, you can also choose “Word (.docx)”. Word export puts the text and images in one .docx file that you can edit in Word or another compatible app. In the Mac app, choose a location in the save dialog. In a desktop browser, you can also choose “Google Docs”. See Export to Google Docs for the steps. HTML and Markdown download as files. If the note contains images, the download is a ZIP file containing the text and images. In a desktop browser, choosing PDF opens the print dialog. Select a PDF destination, such as “Save as PDF”, and save the file. In the iOS app and mobile browsers, “Export” in the note’s menu saves the text as a Markdown file. You can’t choose another format. If the note contains images, you’ll get a ZIP file with the text and images. The iOS app opens your device’s share sheet so you can choose where to save or send the file. Mobile browsers download the file. In the iOS app, exporting during Inline Generation can include text that is still an unconfirmed preview. To export only confirmed content, finish generation and accept or discard the preview before exporting.

Copy Note Content

In a desktop browser or the Mac app, you can copy the whole note body at once.
  1. Open the note and choose “More” > “Copy content” at the top
  2. Choose “Markdown” or “HTML”
“Markdown” copies the note as Markdown text, and “HTML” copies it as HTML. You can’t copy a note with an empty body. The iOS app and mobile browsers don’t have an option to copy the whole note body. Use “Export” in the note’s menu to save it as a Markdown file, or open the same note in a desktop browser or the Mac app and copy it there.

Google Drive

In a desktop browser, you can import a Google Drive file into a note or export a note as a Google Doc. The Mac app, the iOS app, and mobile browsers don’t have these options, so open the note in a desktop browser. You’ll need to connect Google the first time.

Import from Google Drive

  1. Choose “More” > “Import” > “Google Drive” at the top of the note
  2. Click “Choose document” and select a file
  3. Under “Destination”, choose “Create a new note” or “Replace the current note”, then click “Import”
You can import Google Docs, Word (.docx, up to 25MB), text (.txt), and Markdown (.md) files. Text and Markdown files must be UTF-8 and up to 5MB. Some images and embedded content may not be imported. “Replace the current note” deletes the current body and replaces it with the selected file’s content.

Export to Google Docs

  1. Choose “More” > “Export” > “Google Docs” at the top of the note
  2. Click “Choose destination” and select a folder in My Drive or a shared drive
  3. Click “Export”
Inki creates a new Google Doc in that folder. Click “Open Google Doc” to view it. If images were left out, the completion screen tells you. To disconnect Google, choose “Disconnect” in the import or export dialog.
