What Is the Inki Connector

Connect Inki to Claude and you can work with your Inki notes from a Claude chat. Claude can find and read your notes, save a draft as a new note, and edit the notes you already have. Notes you save open in Inki, so you can keep writing there. The connector works in Claude on the web, the desktop app, the mobile apps, and Cowork.

Connect Inki

You need an Inki account. You can also start from Inki’s page in the Claude directory.
  1. In Claude, open “Customize” > “Connectors”
  2. Find Inki in the directory and add it
  3. Sign in to the Inki account you want to connect
  4. On “Connect to Inki”, check that the request comes from Claude and that you’re signed in to the right account. The screen lists three permissions:
    • Search and read your notes and see your account name and email address
    • Create and edit notes (content, title, folder)
    • Move notes to the trash
  5. Click “Allow connection”

What You Can Do

  • Find notes: Ask about a topic and Claude searches your notes for those words. Ask for recent notes or the notes in a folder and Claude lists them, newest first
  • Read and summarize: Claude reads the text saved in Inki before it summarizes, quotes, or edits a note. Each note it mentions comes with a link that opens the note in Inki
  • Save new notes: Save a draft from the chat as a new note, in a folder you name. If the folder doesn’t exist yet, Claude can create it
  • Edit notes: Ask Claude to replace a paragraph, add a sentence, or remove a passage. Inki keeps the version from before each edit in the note’s version history, so you can restore it
  • Rename and move notes: Change a note’s title or move it to another folder. The note’s text stays the same
  • Move a note to the trash: Claude moves one note at a time. You can restore it from Trash for 30 days
  • Check the connected account: Ask which Inki account is connected, and Claude shows its name and email address

Example Prompts

  • Which Inki account is connected?
  • What did I write most recently in Inki?
  • Find my Inki notes about the product launch and summarize the main one.
  • Save this outline as “Launch outline” in my Essays folder in Inki: 1. Why now 2. Who it’s for 3. What ships on day one 4. How we’ll know it worked
  • Open my Inki note “Draft on habits” and add this sentence at the end: “I’ll pick one draft to finish every Sunday.”

When Claude Asks for Permission

To choose whether Claude asks before it uses Inki’s tools, open “Customize” > “Connectors” in Claude and select Inki. You can set read-only tools and write/delete tools separately. When Claude asks, it shows the tool and what it will send to Inki. We recommend keeping Claude asking before it edits a note, renames or moves it, or moves it to the trash, so you can check each change before you allow it.

What Claude Can’t Do

  • Permanently delete notes or empty Trash
  • Delete folders
  • Move several notes, a whole folder, or all your notes to the trash at once
  • Create share links
  • Read or change notes that belong to other members of your workspace
To delete a note permanently, use Trash in Inki.

Disconnect

  • Desktop browser and Mac app: Open Settings > Account. Under “Connected services”, click “Disconnect” next to Claude, then click “Disconnect” again to confirm. This section appears only while at least one service is connected
  • Any browser: Open inki.so/en/connections, sign in, and click “Disconnect” next to Claude, then confirm
If you disconnect Inki in Claude (“Customize” > “Connectors”), Claude still appears under Inki’s connected services. To remove it there, disconnect it in Inki as described above. After you disconnect in Inki, Claude can’t read or change your notes. Notes you’ve already saved stay in Inki. To use Inki in Claude again, connect it again from Claude.

Things to Know

  • Search matches the words in your notes. If Claude doesn’t find a note, try different words. Recent edits can take a moment to show up in search results
  • Claude reads the version saved in Inki. Edits still open on another device may not be saved yet, so Claude may not see them
  • If a note changes in Inki after Claude reads it, Inki refuses Claude’s edit and nothing is written. Claude reads the note again before it tries again, so your newer changes aren’t overwritten
  • Inki tells Claude that text inside your notes is your content, not instructions. Only your own messages in the chat should decide what Claude does. If Claude asks to make a change you didn’t ask for, don’t allow it
